4/14 On our last full day, we finished up some projects at the school and headed out for a quick scenic tour with lunch. Guess what it did on the way up the mountain? It rained. The whole group minus 3 of us were on the back of the truck with the cage. Someone had to volunteer to ride in the air conditioned truck with the missionary. I won't mention any names but it felt good not to get so wet this time.
As we met for the last time with Frantz and Curt, they were very pleased with all the extra work we had accomplished. We even scheduled another trip for next year to come and build a church in memory of Paul Harp. Overall it has been good.
Today we leave Port au Prince aiport and travel all day long. We arrive in Detroit at 11pm Thursday night. Looking forward to seeing our families and sharing what the Lord has been doing.
Joy in Jesus!
Pastor Mike
4/11 Today was a day of rest from our labor. We went to a Nazarene church in Tabarre. It started at 9:30am. We were about 10 minutes late. Every seat was taken so we had to get our bus seats and bring them in to sit on. There were about 300 in attendance and they meet in their church that was damaged in the earthquake. New city codes are prohibiting them from rebuilding at this point. They only have a roof over their heads. We need to pray that they will be able to move forward soon.
After the service we went to a place where the Haitians pounded out 50 gallon tin barrels into masterpieces. On the way there, we had a flat tire.
I need to tell you about our driver. His name is Franz. He went into action and changed the tire with the help of a few of our men. Then we had a little fender bender where a small Honda tried to go around us and his mirror was taken off. You need to know that they drive like maniacs. The Honda driver was half on the sidewalk while trying to pass. It is like being on a crowded racetrack everywhere you go. There was a small disagreement but things worked out in the long run.
Our leader Franz is a quiet giant. He is a 28 year old Haitian who has the respect of everyone. He puts forth the Spirit and Attitude of Jesus in everything he does. It is great to watch grace exude from every interaction. From leading the crews at the worksite to driving, he is a great leader.
After eating out for lunch, we headed back to the College for a relaxing afternoon that included Nazarene Naps, competitive Phase 10 card games, and inspiring conversations. Dan and Ben McRill did go to the office building and found out the electrical problem that was impossible to find. You can't get much past them.
Overall, it was a relaxing, refreshing day. Tomorrow we will have a full day of work. We will find out later tonight what it is. I don't think Curt Luthye, the work and witness coordinator, wants to ruin a good day with news of more work.
We are all wondering how the service was back in Findlay with the Collegians from Mount Vernon. I now have two weeks of sermons welling up in me. Don't worry, this too shall pass. Pastor Mike
